Job Description


AECOM covers all transport modes and works throughout the lifecycle of projects from policy and strategy, through planning, design and implementation to operations and maintenance.

We are currently seeking to appoint a Principal, Senior or Consultant to join our busy team of freight and fleet experts based in Croydon.

Managing and improving the way in which freight moves is a crucial part of maintaining our economy and improving the quality of our lives. AECOM’s Freight and Fleet Team works with clients to manage, plan and deliver freight and logistics solutions in ways that optimise environmental outcomes without compromising economic and social objectives.

The successful candidate will play an integral role in the team, helping to win new business and either leading on the delivery of freight consultancy project work or working within the delivery team.

AECOM’s Freight and Fleet Team offers a complete multi-modal service of freight research, feasibility, master-planning, fleet transition, performance review, site development and behavioural change programmes for the public and private sectors, delivering sustainable freight solutions with specific emphasis on measures that can have positive carbon outcomes.

Our current clients include government agencies from around the world, regional authorities and Sub-national Transport Bodies, private sector developers and operators of freight transport across all modes.

Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international projects and includes:

  • Fleet decarbonisation projects for local authorities and the private sector including Transport for London, Network Rail, Belfast City Council and Birmingham Airport Limited
  • Lorry parking strategy projects for DfT and National Highways
  • Sub National Transport Body freight strategy projects for Midlands Connect, Transport for the South East, Transport for the North, Peninsula Transport and Western Gateway
  • Rail projects including the joint Network Highways and Network Rail Solent to Midlands study
  • Ports projects including the Port of Weston / Runcorn study on freeports
  • International master planning projects

Job/ Project Accountabilities

Candidates will be required to research, analyse and report on a range of quantitative and qualitative freight transport-related projects. Depending on the job level recruited, some or all of the following Job/ Project Accountabilities listed below will form part of the successful candidate's role:

  • Prepare tender submissions and support work-winning activities
  • Support / lead the delivery of projects and act as Task / Project Manager as necessary.
  • Develop detailed methodologies and produce guides, case studies and deliver presentations.
  • Manage the preparation of client reports and provide clients with strategic advice and recommendations regarding safe, efficient, sustainable freight activity.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience and knowledge of freight and logistics
  • Excellent communication, analytical and reporting skills
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally
  • Educated to degree level
