We’re Recruiting for a Cost Engineer
Our EMEA regional Project Controls team is growing in both size and capabilities. We are currently recruiting for a
Cost Engineer to be based in
Hersham, UK as part of our Global Project Execution team.
The successful candidate will have cost engineering experience with complex, multi-phase, multi-million-pound EPC type projects. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting, guiding and advising the Global Project Execution and Engineering Teams on cost expenditure to budget maintaining cost reports, change management, forecasting and financial control for the project. Generation of monthly cost reports with identification, commentary and recommendations on cost issues.
This is an office-based role, but it is expected that the incumbent will travel to Europe, Middle East, Africa and Russia in support of Project Execution. In addition, occasional travel to regional offices in US, India and China may be required.
Your Challenge…
- Attend project kick-off/ commercial kick-off and monthly project team reviews.
- Develop project execution baseline cost report derived from ‘As sold’ cost estimate and check all costs have been allocated into correct CBS to match scope.
- Review all major bid tabs to review currency impacts and correct budget / cost allocation.
- Monitor project spend to ensure accurate cost reporting. Review and analyse and contact supplier, sub-contractor invoices to allocate these expenditures against the appropriate CBS.
- Prepare monthly/quarterly spend analysis. Attend project meetings to provide Project Management with current financial information and trend log regarding potential impacts to project budget or forecast.
- Develop forecast trend analysis for all phases of the project through productivity data and EVM.
- Manage and facilitate the project change control process for recording and managing of project changes to baseline. Analyse change order values against current budget and prepare reconciliations to include in forecast at completion reports.
- Assist project team in development of action plans to avoid cost & schedule overruns.
- Maintain reserve and contingency analysis.
- Using the L4 deliverables to assist budget holders in accurately forecast man-hours with design.
- Work with the project team to develop detailed monthly cost forecast, productivity and progress status reports.
- Review forecast with the Project Manager/Engineering Leadership Team.
- Produce all monthly/quarterly reporting data for the project reporting.
Essential Skills and Experience…
- General Experience: Sound knowledge, proven skills and competencies in application of project cost control principles, methodologies and tools, supporting all phases of project execution, especially around Project Cost Control, Forecasting, Change Management and Reporting, within a large project-oriented EPC or Owner Organization. Must be able to deliver accurate cost information, reporting and guidance to management. SAP experience within Project Systems module.
- Project Cost Control Experience: Proven skills and experience of cost control of projects on global basis, supporting foreign currency analysis, assessing currency risk exposures, advising Treasury of currency requirements and changes, supporting projects executed by multiple engineering offices, and understanding intercompany project ramifications. Understanding of a variety of project types, structures and contract terms. This includes Sale of Gas (SOG), third party Sale of Equipment (SOE), joint ventures, capital, and cost sharing type arrangements.
- Core competencies: Commercial and technical acumen, working knowledge of project cost controls tools and systems. Proven skills in cost control, coupled with a working knowledge of project management, business development and finance.
As a Cost Engineer, you will have:
- Education – Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Numerate or related field preferred
- Extensive experience in Project Execution / Project Controls
- Ability to work within an established team to achieve targets and goals.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent knowledge and proficiency with the Microsoft office suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, One Note)
- Working knowledge of SAP, Primavera P6, Deltek Acumen is desirable
