Job Introduction

Reach Plc are looking for a Apprentice Printer to work on our printing site in Glasgow. A fantastic opportunity to learn to print Scotland's leading newspapers on a large web offset press (KBA Commander).

This will be a 3 year Modern Apprenticeship which will be workplace based and overseen by Print Scotland.

Initially you will be working dayshift for the first year. This will then change to nightshift as this is when the majority of printing activity takes place.

Apprentice salary will increase each year as skills are obtained.

Key Responsibilities

You will be working alongside other printers to learn and gain knowledge of the following:

  • Uphold Reach's policy around diversity and inclusion and work to ensure our values around non-discrimination are upheld in everything we publish.
  • S.S.O.W Awareness
  • Reelstand Operations.
  • Reelstand Control Panel Adjustments.
  • Understanding Impositions.
  • Plating and De-plating Press.
  • Press set up and presets.
  • Folder settings and adjustments.
  • Start press and achieve good copy from cold.
  • Set and maintain web tensions.
  • Maintain ink / water balance.
  • Monitor quality and adjust register controls.
  • Carry out all aspects of R&C.
  • Inprint / Event Logging / EAE job set up.
