Role; Young Persons Practitioner

Salary: Circa £23,600 per annum

Contract/Hours: Permanent- Full Time, 37hrs per week

Location: Paisley,

About the Role:

Action for Children is working in partnership with Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs (SFAD) to develop the Grow Your Own Routes model in the Renfrewshire area. The project has been funded by the Scottish Government's Whole Family Wellbeing Fund, in partnership with the Drugs Policy Division, to deliver 3 Outcomes:


  • Outcome 1: Young people harmed by substance use are visible, have a voice and are empowered to effect change.

  • Outcome 2: Workforce confidence and expertise in co-producing change with young people harmed by substance use is increased.

  • Outcome 3: The impact of alcohol and drug harm on young people and their families is reduced through increased delivery of the Routes practice model across Scotland.

As a Young Persons Practitioner, you'll be:

  • Facilitating groups to bring young people with similar experiences together for fun and peer support
  • Providing 1:1 emotional support and activities for young people in the Renfrewshire area
  • Working 5 days over 7 to ensure young people have access to positive experience in the evenings and weekends
  • Working closely with schools to promote the service and encourage young people to self-refer

Our job description for the Young Persons Practitioner outlines the requirements of the role but the ‘must-haves' are:

  • Experience of working with young people in a youth work / community environment.
  • SVQ level 3 health & social care or equivalent desirable.
  • The ability to engage with young people, build relationships and trust
  • Experience of multi-agency working.
  • The ability to write and present written reports for court and statutory
  • Driving licence and access to a suitable means of transport is required for this role.
