Role Overview

To set up, control and manage the effective utilisation of labour throughout JD's Distribution Centre Derby to ensure service & costs are efficient throughout the year.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Set up a framework to continuously review & improve the management of labour across sites
  • Ensure adequate trained, labour resource pools are available at all times
  • Create models to enable short term and long term planning and quick 'what if scenarios'
  • Manipulate sales and volume plans from across various parts of the business and transpose these into useful information for the DC Mgmt Team
  • Ensure Internal Mgmt fully understand both the resource requirements & capabilities
  • Manage the relationship with any external agency / labour providers and ensure any potential capability risks are managed accordingly
  • Ensure resource plans are aligned to DC system capability and any future expansion plans
  • Regularly monitor actual data and understand / incorporate changes into the labour plan
  • Ensure peak trading season labour build is managed in a controlled manner whilst ensuring any over staffing is minimised where possible in the build up
  • Devise and manage external labour providers KPI's and ensure value for money at all times
  • Produce Management information for both internal and external parties in line with business / project requirements
  • To provide full support where necessary for any DC projects requiring stock, resource of planning information, through analysis of data etc.
  • Setup reporting and monitoring of colleague performance, liaising with operational management
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties in line with the needs of the business

Skills/Experience/Knowledge Needed:

  • Commercial experience of distribution centre processes and work flow or a similar environment
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal) and influence the operational teams.
  • Ability to problem-solve
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work to deadlines and to work under pressure
  • Excellent computer literacy including Word, Power point and advanced Excel skills e.g. modelling etc.
