Wastewater Network Technician
Cramlington/Durham/Thornaby
Up to 24 months fixed term contact/secondment up until the end of March 2025
Salary: up to £38,989 (depending on experience)
About the role
We’ve got an amazing opportunity to join us as a Wastewater Network Technician to support us in maximising the team’s contribution towards the effective operation and maintenance of the sewerage network, by ensuring excellent customer service is provided. You’ll be carrying out thorough investigations to reduce sewer flooding, pollution incidents and other network issues.
The role will require you to carry out comprehensive sewer investigations to identify the root cause and resolve using the appropriate resource either contractor, direct labour and promote potential solutions through business.
You’ll be ensuring pollution investigations are thoroughly carried out to identify the root cause and resolve using the appropriate resource to minimise the impact on the environment, along with ensuring flooding investigations are thoroughly carried out to identify the root cause and resolve using the appropriate resource to minimise repeat sewer flooding.
We’re looking for you to ensure any investment projects are completed in accordance with company standard and highlight potential investment projects or plans to meet future demands on assets or resolve identified shortfalls.
You’ll also be assisting in ensuring that Quality Environmental Management System records and accreditation is maintained and represent the department at key stakeholder meetings with the EA, Local Authorities and contractors.
This role has also been defined as a safety or security critical role and as a condition of a formal offer of employment you’ll be required to undergo a drug and alcohol test.
Prospective employees and agency workers in defined safety and security critical roles will be required to undertake a drug and alcohol test after the job offer has been made. This will be prior to or within four weeks of their start date.
Prospective employees and agency workers who fail a pre-employment urine drug screen will have their sample analysed by the Company appointed laboratory as a matter of course. Failing a pre-employment drugs or alcohol test may lead to the job offer being revoked
About you
We’re looking for the successful candidates to have proven experience of excellent customer service skills and of working in a customer focussed environment, along with experience of Quality Environmental and Health and Safety procedures and ideally knowledge and understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks (e.g. customer, financial, H&S, quality, environmental)
You’ll have proven experience of being a strong team player involving and supporting others in problem solving and decision-making processes, along with effective relationship management and networking ability (across all areas of a business and with external stakeholders).
We’re looking for you to excellent proven good communication and interpersonal skills, along with excellent literacy and numeracy and problem-solving skills and be innovative, look for and highlight potential improvements of ways of working. You’ll also have a qualification (maybe to BTEC/NVQ Level 3 level) in a science, engineering / construction or environmental related discipline or equivalent but with proven work experience.
