Job Description

Seeking a SEN Tutor with Autism and PDA experience for role in Dagenham, up to 15 hrs/week

About

Bright Heart is an award-winning London-based tuition agency and education consultancy – we won the Tuition Business of the Year award in the 2022 National Tutoring Awards. We are also an accredited National Tutoring Programme (NTP) Tuition Partner. We offer a more nurturing approach and help students with special educational needs (SEN) and those lacking confidence or motivation. Our heart-based approach – the ‘Bright Heart Approach’ – involves meeting the whole person from their unique perspective with warmth to build trust, self-esteem and self-belief, before building on academic abilities.

The role

Bright Heart Education’s tuition agency (an employment business) is seeking an experienced Autism Tutor, preferably a qualified teacher, with excellent spoken and written English who is available to provide support for students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The candidate would need experience with PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance). We have a preference for a tutor who has good day time availability. The successful candidate will be provided with further information and guidelines on the Bright Heart Approach and relevant training for working with students.

Key qualities we look for in our tutors include:

  • Passion for working with students with ASC and SEMH needs, including those with more challenging needs
  • Ability to provide engaging and informative lessons that motivate students
  • Ability to create bespoke lessons according to the student’s needs
  • Day time availability, to be able to cover up to 15 hrs/week (around 3 hrs/day, morning start)
  • Caring, patient, flexible and empathetic approach
  • Professional and diligent demeanour

Benefits of the role

  • Competitive remuneration to attract high-quality candidates
  • A tutor incentive scheme
  • A £4 per journey travel contribution (in addition to the advertised pay rate)
  • A respectful working environment for tutors
  • On-going training
  • Many opportunities for work - both day-time and after-school

Key qualifications

All candidates must have the right to work in the UK and a current Enhanced DBS certificate before commencing any tutoring assignments (we can apply on behalf of a candidate if not currently held). Candidates will also be required to provide us with 2 independent professional references that are tutoring/teaching related and a parent reference. Please review the safer recruitment policy on our website for further details.

In addition, candidates should have:

  • Experience working with children with ASC in the UK
  • Practical experience of PDA
  • Able to deliver a curriculum (preferably the tutor has QTS)
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • day time availability, preferably a 9h30 /10 am start
  • Understanding of the communication challenges involved when working with students with autism and in-depth knowledge of strategies to improve it
  • Flexibility and resourcefulness when using a variety of resources, as well as the student’s strengths and interests, to improve learning
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies and best practices

Applying to Bright Heart:

Please attach your CV and include a cover letter outlining your ASC tutoring experience and your motivation for applying to us. Please note, applications with a cover letter will be given preference.

Should we wish to progress your application, we will contact you for a brief screening call, with potential next steps being pre-interview checks and an interview with one of our directors.

Thank you for your interest.
