What does a Technical Accountant at Collinson do?

This is a newly created role for an experienced accountant providing the technical lead across our European operations with a particular focus on insurance transactions.

Working as part of the External Reporting team within the European Finance team supporting the Insurance, Travel Experiences, Assistance and Service company entities. The role will require the building of strong relationships across the wider business in order to provide guidance on complex issues and their interactions with the internal and external reporting requirements so that we can continue to deliver a first-class service to all our customers.

As the Technical Accountant, you will be responsible for providing a lead on all technical accounting matters as they impact the European Group. Ensuring we follow best practice and adhere to accounting standards and reporting requirements. You will be tasked with assessing the impact of new standards, their implementation across the business and documenting the processes and procedures enacted, ensuring they stand up to external scrutiny. In addition, you will be advising on potential changes to existing transactions, products and policies ahead of new standards and regulations coming into force and as part of a wider best practice mindset.

In addition, in the short to medium term you will assist the team in imbedding IFRS 17 and IFRS 9 from the implementation stage to business as usual for two subsidiaries of wider the Insurance Group.

Your duties will include and are not limited to the following activities and tasks:

  • Support the Financial Reporting teams and provide advice on the accounting implications of their business and actively ensuring that they are aware of all forthcoming technical accounting changes and the impacts thereof.
  • Ensuring the ongoing compliance of new and existing reporting standards and requirements at an entity level for the European division.
  • Contribute to projects from a Technical Accounting perspective on the impact assessment and implementation of UKGAAP/IFRS amendments.
  • Support the new business/product assessment process, supporting the relevant Financial Reporting team to support structuring activities, advise on the impact of new transactions on the company's accounts, and co-ordinate responses across the finance function.
  • Help deliver technical standards IFRS 17 and IFRS 9 into business as usual.
  • Key review point for adherence to technical reporting.
  • Support the timely and accurate submission of annual Statutory Reporting for all European entities;
  • Ensuring robust accurate and up to date documentation is in place for all new and existing accounting policies and processes.
  • Liaising with external service providers.

About you

To be successful in your application, you’ll have experience of working within a similar role alongside an accountancy qualification (ACCA, ACA, CIMA or Equivalent).

This role will require strong technical accounting knowledge and experience creating financial statements and reporting requirements, alongside a proven understanding of Insurance Accounting to support the IFRS17.
