Looking for a new role where you can make a difference every day? We’re looking for a kind, compassionate and resilient Drugs and alcohol Specialist Support Worker to join our Hackney Road Project service in Tower Hamlets


£23,970.00 per annum, working 40 hours per week, plus 25 days Annual Leave, Pension schemes, staff discounts, healthcare, and career progression.

Shift Patterns: 40 Hours Rolling rota- shift work, Some weekends and bank holiday, Early- 7:30- 4, Late- 2-10:30pm

At East London Apartments, we are looking for team members who are resilient and committed to working with individuals who have experienced complex trauma and multiple exclusion. East London Apartments is a complex need accommodation-based service in Tower Hamlets, supporting some of the most entrenched rough sleepers in the borough. The service has been developed on the principles of the Housing First model and is underpinned by trauma informed practice.

We are looking for team members who are resilient and committed to working with individuals who have experienced trauma and multiple exclusion. Working at East London Apartments provides an opportunity to work closely with clinical teams, local statutory agencies, substance misuse services and the criminal justice system, so is an ideal setting for candidates with an interest in psychology, trauma, offending behaviours, mental health and substance misuse. Essentials:

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant area (e.g. substance misuse, addiction, psychology, Health and Social Care,).
  • Experience building and developing strong professional partnerships with external providers.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in complex needs services, community development, addiction counselling, drug and alcohol work or other related fields.
  • Good written and oral communication skills

Desirable:

  • 2-3 years’ experience providing targeted recovery focussed support to individuals with needs around trauma, mental health, substance use and dual diagnosis.

Job Overview:

When working with individuals with complex needs, who may display challenging, chaotic behaviours, regularly testing boundaries and have experienced multiple traumas as a result of abuse, neglect, years of street homelessness, or long stays in mental health hospitals, it is integral that the post holder is motivated to support individuals to progress. They should continually hold aspirations for individuals despite multiple setbacks, and display emotional resilience, able to process challenging incidents and remain motivated to deliver excellent support.

The successful applicant will have experience working closely with a range of services to support individuals to recover from their dependence on drugs and or alcohol. You will have good knowledge of harm reduction techniques and various treatment approaches for addiction and be confident in the use of these approaches. These should include but are not limited to medication treatment, behavioural counselling and relapse prevention.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Building supportive, trusting relationships with customers and external partners, creating a positive atmosphere
  • Carrying out holistic assessments of new customers which incorporate relevant statutory referral information
  • Conducting regular key work sessions that are innovative and engaging in order to achieve Support Plan goals
  • Key-working the most complex service-users with particular needs aligned with the post holder’s specialism – Trauma informed Care
  • Create support plans for providing appropriate services based on on-going assessment and reflecting the services and resources available to enable customer to progress in their recovery
  • Ensuring ongoing assessment and management of risks associated with customers within an attitude of ‘positive risk taking’
