In this Software Engineer role in London, you will be joining a fast-growing e-commerce start-up, making waves in the health and beauty sector. This innovative and highly tech-savvy start-up manufactures and sells a variety of beauty products, in particular essential oils, and fragrance oils. The business is currently working on expansion into new products and services as well as pursuing aggressive growth via advertising, international expansion, marketing, and other data-driven approaches.
A key part of this strategy is building out the tech stack, including working on new applications, building on existing proprietary software, as well as integrating and maintaining multiple 3rd party applications and tools. The business is also continuously optimising manufacturing, packing and other operational processes with a data-driven methodology to allow these various departments to operate in the most lean and agile way possible, and the candidate would also play a key role in this area.

Job description - Software Engineer
As a Software Engineer you will be responsible for working directly with Senior Management with a view to implementing, maintaining, and most importantly improving the business’s use of software, technology and data.
The company is extremely tech focused, even for an e-commerce start up, and has developed its own proprietary software in Python for several of its processes and tools. The company also uses cutting edge analytics software and AI to streamline its business decisions.
The company also has a firm belief that a major part of its strategy in the future is machine learning and applied data science, and the candidate would take the lead in evolving these capabilities from the ground up.
Key responsibilities - Software Engineer
- Understanding and improving on the business’ current implementation of systems, applications and databases
- Thinking “outside of the box” and developing new applications and approaches to solve real world problems
- Helping the company become more efficient by creating, and streamlining processes (both physical and IT based) using a data driven approach
- As this is a rapid growth start-up, the role’s demands can vary rapidly so any candidate must be flexible and dynamic, and willing to take on a variety of challenges
Job requirements - Software Engineer
- Excellent academic background, preferably degree educated in Computer Science, Mathematics or similar
- A full-stack mindset! Knowledge of Python is a must, along with a good grounding in JavaScript & SQL
- Adaptability and ability to juggle many responsibilities and deadlines will be required
- Interest in working within a start-up environment, being a part of a company’s journey and growth
- Self-starter and able to work equally well individually and as part of a team
- The right candidate will rapidly be able to independently accelerate their understanding of the company’s technology and database structure and will be responsible for developing and owning these areas
- Experience from a previous relevant role (minimum 18 months) required, though some candidates with slightly less may be considered if optional
