Our specialist Jack-Up and Geotechnical team is part of the wider Offshore Engineering and Consulting department here at DNV. The work we do is at the forefront of implementing the green energy transition around the world today, with a focus on the installation and operation of jack-up vessels. Our team provide sophisticated solutions and engineering assessments to support offshore renewable energy installation projects around the globe, as well as ensuring safe operations for our oil and gas customers. The team is based in the London office and is the global technical hub for this service line.

Supporting with the delivery of our customer projects, you’ll be given real responsibility to manage and deliver global projects, whilst you continue to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of the Energy industry.

Our Opportunity:

Based on our central London offices (near Waterloo/Blackfriars stations), you’ll join a diverse group of structural, mechanical and geotechnical engineers who make up our dedicated Jack up and Geotechnical engineering team, specializing in jack-up site assessments and consultancy services for safe marine operations related to offshore wind turbines and other energy projects.

As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering technical work, managing projects, whilst also supporting and mentoring less experienced members of our team. Your strong technical background will ensure the successful delivery of structural analyses in compliance with international codes and guidelines, while meeting deadlines and budgetary requirements. Additionally, you will have ample opportunities to engage in project management and commercial activities, with the autonomy to lead and support technical proposal preparation.

Your expertise will be invaluable in helping shape our team's approach to creating innovative solutions for our clients, defining our future strategy, and enhancing our capabilities to identify opportunities for wider integration of our services. You’ll also work closely with our business development team, contributing to winning new business with existing and potential clients, developing proposals, bidding for contracts, attending client meetings and building relationships with key stakeholders.

This is a varied role, so you’ll be stretched, but always supported, surrounded by people who want you to thrive, develop and embrace new challenges.

You will be given opportunity to:
  • Work as technical lead on projects to accomplish the overall delivery of optimum solutions to clients
  • Perform a range of structural analyses, or site-specific assessments of jack-up units and wind turbine installation vessels, operating under extreme conditions
  • Fulfil role in verifying others’ work, and own technical work to support team targets
  • Manage your own projects and to work with a high degree of independence, supported by mentors and other senior engineers.
  • Support the Team Lead to develop and grow our Jack-up and Geotech business including preparation of tenders and proposals and successful negotiation of commercial terms.
  • Act as Customer / Key Account Manager role for large customers and have regular meetings with existing customer network to grow existing services and develop new opportunities.
  • Develop alongside our world-leading experts, on a variety of high-profile global engineering projects, on behalf of some of the industry’s leading organisations.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a proven track record of delivering quality results, along with:
  • A degree in either, Civil, Structural, Offshore or Mechanical engineering
  • Demonstrable experience in engineering consultancy, with a background in offshore structures, offshore wind, or oil and gas.
  • Knowledge of structural analysis (e.g. fracture mechanics, Finite Element Analysis, stress analysis, structural design, wave dynamics, seismic design, engineering materials, etc.) and familiarity with industry assessment software, such as FEA (Abaqus/Ansys).
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to plan, coordinate, and execute key activities proactively across multiple projects simultaneously, whilst maintaining high performance and quality under pressure.
  • Ability to win new business with existing and potential clients, develop proposals, bid for contracts and attend client meetings.
  • Curious and proactive, with a solution-oriented approach, demonstrating an ability to manage, develop, and lead projects independently with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, with confidence in building professional relationships both internally and externally with customers.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write clear and concise reports and present complex solutions and ideas to both specialist and non-specialist stakeholders.
