Senior Clinical Ward Operations Manager

As a Senior Clinical Ward Operations Manager, you are part of the CUC Leadership team, drive multifunctional improvements in clinical processes and activities used by CUC.

You are someone that has experience Influencing senior leaders in adopting best practices for subject safety and data integrity while ensuring the clinical unit operates to the highest clinical, regulatory, and ethical standards. In this role you will continually review to identify and implement appropriate strategies, process efficiencies, best working practice and matrix working.

You will Influence the strategic direction and business plan for the short-, medium- and long-term operation of the CUC.

  • Manage studies conducted in the Clinical Unit Cambridge to enable them to proceed in accordance with the protocol, CUC procedures, company policies, legal and regulatory requirements with a focus on the ward area and training of the business.
  • Always ensure subject safety in the clinical area.
  • A member of the CUC Leadership team, leading multifunctional projects for continuing improvement of the unit’s activities
  • Participate and lead projects and team discussions which impact study design and conduct.
  • Proactively represent the ward area and training within the leadership team environment.
  • Manage and develop Clinical Ward Managers, Clinical Technicians and other staff as required.
  • Manage contingent workers supporting the business requirements of the clinical environment, Clinical Technicians and other staff within the unit.
  • Responsible for the day to day running of the clinical area of the clinical unit.Ensure effective and efficient delivery of clinical trials to the highest quality.
  • Responsible for the administration of activities to maintain operational status of the clinical unit independent of studies encompassing areas such as scheduling studies, staffing rotas, resource and facilities to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Assess, develop, implement and maintain comprehensive training packages and curricula in line with unit requirements.
  • Lead operational excellence in all training requirements for the unit.
  • Support novel techniques that will be required within the unit to enhance CUC capabilities and train staff in them as applicable
  • Act as main support for MyLearning curriculum training and for eCRF training (new system)
  • Provide support to the Health and Safety team for the unit with the responsibility of Lead First Aider for the CUC.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Registered Nurse (as least Part 1) to degree or diploma level.
  • Knowledge of the principles of quality, safety, risk management and compliance (ICH and GCP).
  • Extensive experience post registration.
  • Experience at a senior level, including responsibility for managing a team.
  • Experience of working within a clinical research environment.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience of HTA, ICH GCP, GMP and GxP requirements, regulatory and ethical requirements, SOPs and policies
  • Good leadership record - proven people management skills, having been responsible for overseeing staff.
  • Demonstrated confidence in challenging mind-sets, influencing leaders, and developing/implementing strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to Coach and/or Mentor key talent in CUC
  • Experience of running process improvement initiatives
  • Ability to be flexible and innovative in their approach with a proven ability to manage change
  • Self-motivated – able to work independently with the ability to motivate others.
  • ILS certified

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Degree in Nursing, Biological or Human Sciences
  • Experience in leading strategy development/implementation and change in a business unit projects - a proven change agent, operating with passion, urgency and commitment.
  • Teamwork: Established reputation for working within a team and developing cohesiveness for all team members.
  • Business acumen by understanding the implications of decisions from a business perspective and uses this knowledge to plan, implement and manage R&D, issues, projects and ensure processes are aligned with CUC business needs.
  • Understanding of local regulatory environment and commercial needs at a country level.
  • Demonstrates the discipline of project management to plan, organize and manage activities to deliver specific study goals and objectives to measurable targets.
