As a Project Manager for Integrated Projects, you will manage the day to day delivery of a portfolio of complex capital projects to ensure they are delivered safely without adverse impact to the environment, within financial budget, to the required quality standards and in line with timescales as set out in RIIO-T2 Price Control Plan or as per contractual agreement with NGESO.


Integrated Projects combine several elements of HV Infrastructure including Overhead Line, Cable and Substation works. Projects range from £200k for electrical protection works up to £60m+ for the larger major projects.


The projects will typically be categorised as the following:

  • Non Load i.e. replacing Assets on the System.
  • Load i.e. increase Load on the system to support new connections demand on the Network.

The vast majority of Integrated works are Load Projects which are generated via either a TOCA (Transmission Operator Connection Agreement) or TORI (Transmission Owner Reinforcement Instruction). Commercial processes via NP&R (Network Planning & Regulation), Development and System Design will have already been completed meaning high level project cost and timescale for delivery will already have been determined.

What you’ll be doing

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of projects throughout their lifecycle, from development through to financial and technical closedown of the project, ensuring all documentation and systems are updated to facilitate the operation of the assets during the asset lifespan once commissioned.
  • Contribute to the Business target for out-performance during the current 5 year price control period by identifying, promoting and implementing innovation, efficiencies and value engineering during the project delivery lifecycle through robust procurement and leading project team collaboration.
  • Deliver accurate capital expenditure forecasts and output projections on all projects to ensure compliance with contractual and financial governance using in-house forecasting tools and systems.
  • Responsible for monthly updating and overall management of project programme(s).
  • Promote and implement external/internal stakeholder engagement and community liaison for project(s) including compliance with SPEN Land Code of Conduct. The PM will be expected to participate in attending meetings with the Community Liaison team and stakeholders to inform them on the project progress and issues.
  • Compliance with SPEN Integrated Management System including externally accredited systems for Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality management by managing and resolving issues raised through regular project audits.
  • Responsible for the coordination of tendering activities as well as the management and administration of contract work packages during delivery.
  • Deliver a quality product to SPEN Operations Businesses by ensuring compliance with quality procedures and inspection, witness & test plans.
  • Coordinate submission of data and final records for all assets into the corporate systems in line with required policy and associated timescales through participation in commissioning panel meetings.
  • Drive continual improvement behaviour by identifying lessons learned and sharing these with the wider business. Project and contract reviews carried out timeously to identify improvements.
  • Occasional travel to sites.

What you’ll bring

  • Engineering degree qualified or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of managing electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Project management methodology experience.
  • Project risk management and control.
  • Procurement processes.
  • Contract management e.g. FIDIC, NEC, JCT.
  • Financial control/forecasting.
  • Understanding of and able to implement quality assurance processes.
  • Health, safety and environmental legislation applicable to construction projects particularly CDM 2015..
  • Ability to devise solutions to problems and challenges.
  • Current full UK driving licence.
