Job Title: Principal Engineer / Lead Software Engineer

Our technology teams in the UK work closely with HSBC’s global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely. We also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world’s leading international bank.

Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps engineers, IT architects, front and back end developers, infrastructure specialists, cyber experts, as well as project and programme managers.


Role Description:

The Principal Engineer role operates under the Analytics Engines Team. This individual will be self-driven, accountable, and creative. You should have a strong sense of analytical and communication skills with the ability to identify business value in your deliverables. This role involves collaborating with other cyber security professionals to develop and security implementations that align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Manage and execute the full end-to-end project through data gathering and transformation, synthesis and modelling, problem solving and clear delivery of insights and recommendations.
  • The ability to work closely with peers and business leads to build and implement controls in alignment with risk-posture, architectural constraints, company strategic direction and industry trends and best practices
  • A passion for continuous learning in cyber security, data science, technology, and best practices.
  • Experience with Agile and Scrum project management methodologies and ownership to manage complex projects involving multiple stakeholders.
Requirements
Essential Skillset/Experience:
  • Cybersecurity principles and best practices with a strong understanding of risk management, threat intelligence, security operations and incident response
  • A strong background in software engineering with experience in Full stack development and data analytics.
  • Experience with data processing including log parsing/extraction, data transformation, data cleansing, and data analytics.
  • Knowledge of security analytics tools and technologies such as SIEMs, log analysis tools and threat detection technologies
  • A data analysis and modelling skill set with experience in statistical analysis, machine learning and data visualization.
  • Data analytics experience in Databricks, Synapse Analytics, and/or analytics experience with large scale data warehouses such as Snowflake, Redshift, or Presto.
  • Experience with the python data science ecosystem (Jupyter, pandas, NumPy, matplotlib, etc.)
  • Intermediate to advanced abilities developing queries in SQL, KustoQL, and/or SPL
  • A solid understanding of network and system architecture, including knowledge of common network protocols and operating systems.
  • Familiarity in development, security and operations standard processes and procedures
  • Expert level knowledge and demonstrated experience in developing and deploying real-time analysis capability of large scale and often diverse data sets, that enable more effective, efficient, and coordinated defence capabilities.


The role will be based in Sheffield.
