Job Description

We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic and hardworking Personal Development Project Officer to join our successful Personal Development team within the Great Schools Trust. Under the guidance and direction of Head of Personal Development, the role involves planning and delivering the Cadet training programme, playing a lead role in mentoring cadets and general administration of the cadet unit. The successful candidate will also be involved in the wider Personal Development Projects on offer around the Trust, including; Duke of Edinburgh's award, Character Residentials and Outdoor Education projects.

The successful applicant will have previous military or cadet experience, good administration skills, knowledge of the cadet forces ethos and a desire to support, encourage and develop young people.

This role has been created to support the personal development programme development and delivery in all GST schools as well as the development and delivery of a suite of Trust wide suite of entitlements and events. This role will help us meet our aim that children’s entitlement to enrichment opportunities at GST will be unsurpassed. As a trust we want to inspire young people to develop their skills, talents and character through a wide range of activities, to use their curiosity and creativity to find new ways of achieving their potential and to have the confidence, drive and resilience to follow their dreams. Our ambition is for all our schools to engage and inspire pupils through a varied, impactful and sustainable personal development programme. It is our ambition that this programme is deeply embedded within and compliments curriculum delivery, offering real opportunities for the development of our pupils’ social, emotional and life competencies.

We expect that activities and opportunities are able to evidence positive impact and we want to offer our pupils activities they may not otherwise have access to.

This role will help us to ensure that every child will have a fundamental enrichment entitlement, including taking part in meaningful social action in their school and the wider community whilst they are with us. We are also committing to the aim that every Yr8/9 GST student will have the opportunity to undertake both the Cadets programme and the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award. DofE and Cadets programmes take young people on a life-changing journey where they set their own challenges; learning practical skills, improving their fitness, volunteering in their community, planning and going on an adventurous expedition. They develop essential work-ready skills and attributes such as resilience, confidence, commitment, team working and determination.

The salary for this post is £29,000 inclusive of grant funding from the DfE in respect of SSI's in post. The Trust will pay £13,000 of the salary, however due to the nature of the Ministry of Defence funding, the successful candidate will be required to self draw down from the MOD a percentage of their salary. Please get in touch with our Head of Personal Development - Ted Roberts for a further explanation of how this works in practice. (t.roberts@greatschoolstrust.com).
