Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Place Performance, Governance and Improvement service for a dynamic and committed individual to lead on Performance Management and Service Planning to enable the Place department to achieve its Council Plan deliverables and meet its long term aims and objectives.

You will act as the department’s strategic advisor on performance, risk and consultation. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to deliver significant improvements in performance and quality of service delivery.

What will I be doing:

  • Lead and manage the service planning process for Place ensuring the service plans help deliver the Council Plan and other strategic objectives
  • Deliver high quality performance information and analysis to departmental management teams to inform strategic decision-making utilising good quality data and benchmarking
  • Ensure robust and effective levels of control in relation to risk management are in place, including providing timely and accurate reports on progress to the Departmental Management Team and Directorate Management Teams
  • Manage the department’s approach to community engagement, ensuring that it meets legislative requirements, and that community feedback influences decision making and informs the department’s work programme
  • Plan and deliver legally sound and comprehensive public and stakeholder consultations on substantial changes to policy and / or services.
  • Manage the Department’s Quality (ISO 9001) and Environmental (ISO 14001) Management Systems in line with the standard and external audit requirements
  • Manage budgets and contracts associated with specific work areas

What skills and experience you need to have:

  • Be enthusiastic, versatile and self-motivated with the ability to work well as part of a team
  • Substantial experience of Performance Management and Risk Management
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent professional qualification with significant experience in one or more of the specialisms and ideally possess a management qualification or lead assessor/ auditor qualification
  • Displaying a high level of tact, diplomacy, drive and enthusiasm
  • Outstanding communication and report writing skills
  • The experience and ability to motivate people at all levels to make decisions in a complex and changing environment.

Our Performance, Governance and Improvement team is contractually based in Matlock, Derbyshire, but as part of our Modern Ways of Working programme we are currently working on a hybrid basis of one day in the office each week. There'll be an opportunity to discuss future working arrangements at interview.
