Who We Are Looking For
A PDMS/E3D Senior Piping Designer for allocated Engineering Office or Project(s) who will ensure technical Integrity and quality of engineering discipline deliverables within schedule and budget, meeting all client expectations.
This role will initially be required for 3-6 months.
Key Responsibilities
- Production of cost effective design solutions that are fit for purpose, safe and add value to both KCA DEUTAG and the Client. Motivation of discipline personnel to do similarly.
- Surveys, both onshore and offshore, to determine information to allow execution of workscopes.
- Knowledge of, and compliance with, KCA DEUTAG Management Systems. Assurance that personnel under the Lead Designer’s control comply with the procedures.
- Knowledge of, and compliance with, client, industry and international specifications and standards. Assurance that personnel under the Lead Designer’s control comply with relevant documents.
- Supervision of discipline personnel under own control, and for the quality of work produced by these discipline personnel.
- Assurance of competence of design personnel under the Senior Designer’s control. Identification of personnel shortfalls and submission of proposal to the Lead Discipline Designer for solutions such as training, coaching or replacement.
- Identification of design scope of work required to undertake a project/job. Estimation of deliverables, manpower and time required to execute the scope of work.
- Input to project plans and schedules via the Lead Discipline Designer.
- Early identification to the Lead Discipline Designer of areas of concern during the course of any project or study with necessary corrective action identified.

- Ensuring operational and maintenance issues are addressed in the design. Seeking input from operations and maintenance personnel and, if beneficial, carrying out presentations to site personnel of changes to their installation.
- Surveys, both onshore and offshore, to determine information to allow execution of workscopes.
- Raising requisitions for purchase of engineered items and services, as directed by the Lead Discipline Designer.
- Monitoring progress of work and achieving completion within the agreed schedule and budget. Reporting progress to the Lead Discipline Designer as per KCA DEUTAG systems and procedures.
- Checking of documents created by own discipline, e.g. drawings, bills of materials.
- Identification of increase or reduction in scope of work and advising the Lead Discipline Designer accordingly.
- Ensuring Discipline Designers follow discipline procedures for document control and use and retention of check prints / IDC comments prints.
- Representation of KCA DEUTAG with Clients and Suppliers / Vendors in a professional manner as required.
- Awareness and understanding of the business drivers within the KCA DEUTAG / Client relationship and how these can be influenced by innovative designs and minimum cost solutions.
Safety
Demonstration of safe approach in design and working practices, following the objectives of the Office and project specific Health, Safety and Environmental Plans.
Encouragement of attention to safety in personnel under the Lead Designer’s control.
Financial
Awareness and understanding of the business drivers within the KCA DEUTAG / Client relationship and how these can be influenced by innovative designs and fit-for-purpose solutions.
Business Development
- Development of good working relationship with Client and site personnel.
- Use of opportunities at meetings with Clients, Vendors etc. to learn of additional work which KCA DEUTAG could undertake and to promote KCA DEUTAG’s capabilities.
- During surveys and site visits, communication with Operations and Maintenance personnel to determine any opportunities where KCA DEUTAG could provide an engineering solution to existing problems or for improving the existing practice.
Departmental Development
Liaison with the Lead Discipline Designer to identify areas for development and to implement improvements in working practices.
Systems and Processes
Provision of information as required by KCA DEUTAG systems.
People
Training and development of Trainee Discipline Designers and assistance to Lead Discipline Engineer for training and development of Graduate Discipline Engineers.
Quality
- Adherence to the KCA DEUTAG BMS.
- Keeping up to date with technical developments, client, national and international standards and legislative requirements related to the role.
Location: Aberdeen Head Office
Key Skills & Experience
Proven experience in discipline design role with an Oilfield Operator, Drilling Contractor or Service Company.
Offshore survey experience (BOSIET) preferred
