Looking for an opportunity to further your knowledge and skills in Cardiology within a supportive multidisciplinary team environment? We are looking for an enthusiastic ODP to join the department and help support and develop our General Anesthetic service.

Our innovative Cardiology department’s Cardiac Cath labs comprise of 5 cath labs, a recovery area and an Elective Unit. Procedures completed in the cath lab include coronary diagnostic procedures, interventional angioplasty, Electrophysiology Studies and Pacemaker insertion. In addition we run a 24 hour heart attack service which is provided out of hours on an on call basis. Our service currently entails 2.5 GA lists a week supporting complex pacing and electrophysiology procedures. We also have a fortnightly cardioversion list. This is set to increase in the future.

As an ODP in the cath lab you would be integral to maintaining a safe and effective GA service, while also expanding your role to include scrubbing and circulating for all procedures.

Supernumerary time and support would be given to develop competencies in all areas.

In this role you will be able to develop your skills in
  • Running GA lists alongside multidisciplinary team
  • Working in recovery admitting and recovering allocated patients
  • Scrubbing to assist in our range of interventional and diagnostic procedures.
  • Caring for patients during non GA procedures with conscious sedation and pain relief as required and accurately documenting this.
  • Handing over patients to the recovery team post procedure
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the GA service

The following skills and experience will be required and are essential for the successful candidates:

Clinical
  • Ensure practice is in accordance with the HPC Code of Professional Conduct and work within limits of competence.
  • To have successfully completed the Trust’s preceptorship programme
  • Maintain a high standard of care applying evidence-based practice.
  • Carry out assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care without supervision.
  • Carry out the daily personal care of patients.
  • Maintain accurate records of all care given.
  • Update patient administration systems e.g. PAS to ensure real time data collection and confidentiality.
  • To effectively use information technology for the benefit of patient care in accordance with the Trust’s Cyber Code of Conduct
Management and leadership:
  • To manage the ward/ department environment and staffing in the absence of a senior member of staff.
  • To take responsibility for bed management in the absence of a more senior member of staff.
  • Effectively assess and delegate workload according to staff competencies in order to meet patient needs.
  • To assist in leading and monitoring the performance and work of the nursing team and support workers.
