About Amey

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Highways Management Operative to join our Area 12 team in Doncaster.

The salary for this role is between £11.61 and £13.54 per hour depending on your experience, qualification and valid licenses.

Amey is working in partnership with Area 12 Highways England since June 2021. Area 12 is made up of 476km dual carriageway, 179km single carriageway and 1,963 structures. We provide routine, cyclic and winter maintenance and response across Yorkshire and Humberside, also overseeing traffic management during incidents and the operation of the ten maintenance depots in the region. Ensuring our roads are well- maintained and well- managed, through all-weather seasons we aim to help reduce traffic incidents and severity of road accidents as well as ensure road user of Yorkshire and Humberside feel safer.

Highways Management Operative plays an important part in the installation of temporary traffic management. All aspects of highway maintenance works including routine and cyclic maintenance activities, minor civil’s works, litter picking, etc. Undertake Winter and emergency call out and standby.

The standard hours of work are 4 days on and 4 days off with a rotation of a day and a night shifts. Day shift starts at 06:00 am and finishes at 18:00, night shift starts at 18:00 to 06:00 am.

You will be responsible for:

  • Driving and operating vehicles/plant which require general and specialist skills; this duty includes daily vehicle/plant checks prior to shift starting, routine and cyclic maintenance activities such as EG oil and water checks etc.,
  • Ensure the satisfactory completion of work in accordance with instructions and compliant with Amey’s Health and Safety At Work requirements, as well as Health and Safety legislation,
  • Allocation and capturing time and resource utilisation in line with operated allocation system,
  • Footway and carriageway patching, kerbing works, ironworks, minor civils’ works and drainage,
  • Winter maintenance operations which includes undertaking winter and emergency call out and standby,
  • Communicate and liaise with other employees of Amey, sub-contractors, the emergency services, the police, the general public, clients and customers.

  • Driving license category B & HGV class C
  • Enthusiastic, hardworking, and self-motivated individuals with experience working in a fast paced, arduous, outdoor environment,

  • Effective team worker with good communication and problem-solving skills (ToolBox Talk),
  • Ensure the satisfactory completion of work in accordance with instructions and compliant with Amey’s Health and Safety At Work requirements.

Ideal candidate will hold valid and clear C1 HGV class C driving license and CPC qualification with experience within the highway maintenance, street work or groundwork maintenance.

In addition to this, it would be desirable if you have NRSWA accreditation, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.
