Job Description

We are looking for highly motivated candidate for the role of In-Lab Support Technician to support the PerkinElmer OneSource Scientific Services within our dedicated In-Vivo /In-Vitro Translation support team of a major pharmaceutical company with sites in Stevenage.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for

  • Assisting in the calibration and set-up of Analytical Equipment

  • Ensuring a high quality of equipment for customers to use

  • Sample Management responsibilities to allow for accurate tracking of samples

Our OneSource Scientific Services team, work within the customer labs to deliver time back to the scientists and, for some of our roles, deliver in high complexity science.

These roles will report into our Team Leads who have a focus on personal development and career growth and ensuring the delivery of high-quality support to help deliver new treatments to patients.

Job Responsibilities:

Operational

  • To perform routine calibration/verification checks on a range of laboratory equipment such as pH meters and balances.

  • Cleaning of lab equipment such as incubators, centrifuges and safety cabinets.

  • Sample Management responsibilities to allow for accurate tracking of samples through customer department and external companies.

  • Set up and operation of a wide range of standard lab equipment.

  • Prepare aliquot and label a large variety of buffers and reagents.

  • Preparation of QC standards.

  • Prepare materials and equipment for use.

  • Maintain QA systems by keeping accurate records of work undertaken, methods used, and results achieved.

  • Compliance with all relevant working instructions, SOPs and safety instructions.

  • To be responsible for maintaining an efficient laboratory environment and for ensuring health, safety and compliance standards are met and maintained.

  • Planning of own daily tasks.

Support Management

  • Deliver high quality service to the research groups, to allow work to be prioritised to the customer needs and timelines

  • Proactively identifies and implements efficiency and process improvements into the daily tasks they complete

  • Builds relationships with customer and service provider organisation to provide a collaborative approach to delivery of support

  • Collate metrics to show the quality and productivity

  • Identify areas where the support delivered can develop into other areas

  • Assist in completion of Work Instructions to deliver a standardised level of support and train others as your experience grows

  • Share the success of you, the team and the support provided to show the importance of the support on the customer’s delivery goals

Requirements:

  • Excellent customer service focus and ability to work collaboratively

  • Clear and concise written and spoken communication skills

  • Problem-solving capabilities and ability to make clear decisions and good organisational skills

  • Self-motivated, energetic, dependable with a clear attention to detail

  • Be a good team worker demonstrating loyalty and commitment to the team members. Ability to work independently

  • Computer literacy and able to communicate using various platforms

  • Experience of project management and lean process skills

  • Ability to collaborate with other support teams

  • Experience working in a laboratory environment ideally

  • Experience working with health and safety procedures

  • Science background with qualifications to at least ‘A’ level standard or equivalent (grade C or higher) in a relevant scientific subject, with GCSE Grade A-C/9-5 or equivalent in Maths and English.

Physical/Mental Demands

The overall physical exertion of this position requires:

  • Sit or stand 3-4 hours a day in laboratory areas

  • Sit or stand 3-4 hours a day in office area at provided PC/Laptop

  • Work around moving laboratory equipment and machinery and in modern office arenas, undertaking several different tasks

  • Use of personal protective equipment in laboratory

  • Work with laboratory chemicals and samples
