The team

Our News team delivers high quality and trustworthy television and online coverage that regularly attracts audiences in excess of 3.5 million viewers. It’s a fast moving environment with a huge variety of roles and challenges on offer. We operate in 11 main news production centres across England, Northern Ireland, Wales and the Channel Islands. We also have a Political Unit and a Weather centre based in Millbank, London. And finally, we produce a range of current affairs & factual programming out of ITV Wales, UTV and ITV Border.

The role

ITV News Channel TV is offering the opportunity for a talented journalist to join the team based in Jersey on a permanent staff contract.

This is a high profile, on-screen role for someone with a proven track record for delivering impactful, high-quality, distinctive journalism on television, online and on social media.

As an established self-starter, you will immerse yourself in the community, ensure our newsgathering reflects the different communities that make up our audience and develop great contacts to deliver agenda-setting coverage across the Channel Islands.

This is a busy news patch with different government systems in the islands. You must be a self-starter with an excellent work ethic who regularly contributes original ideas. We will expect you to be willing and enthusiastic about developing your camera and editing skills to complement your newsgathering and story-telling.

Alongside your first-class communication and team working skills, experience of self-shooting, laptop editing and live reporting is desirable. You will also have proven experience of using social media to extend the reach of your journalism.

We would also welcome applications from candidates who have off-screen news production or news editing experience to offer in combination with an on-screen role.

• On-Screen Journalists are required to provide their own means of transport to and from location. The vehicle must be appropriately insured, taxed and maintained. ITV will cover mileage expenses in line with HMRC regulations.
• This is a demanding role requiring the individual to work long and sometimes unsociable hours at short notice
• This is a physically demanding role requiring individuals to transport, carry and operate a camera (and associated equipment) on a regular basis. A pre-employment health check is required.
• The rostered hours for this role will include weekend, early and late working.

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

• Proven track record of delivering impactful, original, high-quality & distinctive journalism.
• Proven technical ability (self shooting, editing, live reporting & digital) to give the story maximum impact as part of a package, online report, 'blog' or as a 'live'.
• A strong knowledge of media law & compliance and the ability to exercise excellent editorial judgement.

• Experience of working effectively as part of a team.
• A good knowledge of the ITV News Channel
• Experience of using Social Media as a promotional tool.
• An understanding of the importance of Diversity & Inclusion in determining output.
