The Vacancy

JOB PURPOSE:

The successful candidate for this role would be part of a 3rd line support team who are primarily responsible for providing a first-class technical service to the business for multiple locations and time zones. This would also include the strategic delivery of hybrid infrastructure design and transformation, operational improvements and ongoing support of the City’s existing server infrastructure and network.


PRINCIPAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The System Administrator day-to-day activities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Define and maintain technology hybrid environment, ensuring the supportability, performance, and compliance of network infrastructure.
  • Deploy Hybrid Cloud standards, best practices, and organisational capability.
  • Plan and deploy on-premises services/server migration to Azure Cloud.
  • Manage and monitor Azure cloud services to ensure they are optimal, efficient and in line with business requirements.
  • Develop and enhance service automation & service delivery processes to maximise service uptime and availability.
  • Monitor and maintain the stability of CityFM infrastructure services, ensuring availability and performance are optimised.
  • Safeguard the CityFM infrastructure by identifying and resolving potential and actual security issues within a CE+ framework.
  • Protecting infrastructure by defining access privileges, control structures, and resources. Recognising issues by identifying abnormalities & reporting violations.
  • Deliver proactive services such as risk assessments and disaster recovery plans, in Disaster Recovery exercises.
  • Be involved in the management & capacity planning for server, network, Cloud, and storage infrastructure in line with the business plans.
  • Serve as a technical authority to multiple projects and business units.
  • Accept escalations from Level 1 & 2 resources.
  • Mentor and coach 2nd line teams to upskill and share infrastructure knowledge.
  • Take part in root cause analysis of incidents and follow up through the Problem Management processes to ensure identified remedial actions are undertaken to prevent further reoccurrence.
  • Investigate and raise awareness of digital and technology developments, relevant products, services and trends our industry.
  • Provide innovation, research, and development expertise to CityFM, including proof of concepts and workshops.
  • Scrutiny & acceptance of build documentation & operational guides for services transitioning into production. Ensuring all IT documentation for procedures, processes and solutions are up to date and contribute knowledge base.


KEY RESULT AREAS

  • Provide technical recommendations and support for business projects and infrastructure deployments, providing design and implementation support across on-prem and cloud platforms.
  • Meet agreed responsive targets for escalated issues, reported to IT Service Desk.
  • Knowledge of Azure cloud core services; networks topologies, storage, load balancing, virtual machines, containers, logging, monitoring & alerting.
  • Microsoft Azure Active Directory, On prem AD, DC, DNS, DHCP.
  • Solid understanding of Simplivity, VMWare & storage technologies, monitoring performance.


SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

Professional/Academic/ Vocational Qualifications

  • Ideally educated to S/NVQ for Information/ Communication Technology or good experience similarly role.
  • Driving license as some driving around the country is required.
  • Degree level qualification
  • VMware and Microsoft certified.


Specific Knowledge

  • Azure Cloud experience and working in a hybrid environment.
  • Azure design & administration.
  • Extensive experience in system administration of Windows server environment.
  • Experience of supporting the following environments
  • VMWare
  • Windows Server 2012+
  • Hyper-V
  • Microsoft Azure Architecture & Administration.
  • Office 365
  • Knowledge of management languages & technologies including
  • PowerShell/VBS/CLI
  • WMI Object Model
  • Supporting Highly available Server configurations.
  • Experience of building automation into processes & event management.
  • Cyber Essential Plus awareness
  • Experience delivering a partner managed service.
  • Microsoft Azure certified/trained.
  • Knowledge of AWS
  • Knowledge of Linux systems
