We are looking for an experienced analyst looking to advance their career to join our forward thinking and dynamic team in South East London.
This is a fixed term role within the ICB’s Planning Directorate, supporting the exciting Specialised Services Pathfinders Programme in South London, as part of a multi disciplinary team of Finance, Contracting and Analytics experts. This role will support and report directly to the Associate Director of Financial Analytics but benefit from the support and integration in a well established analytics team.
With extremely strong data manipulation, statistical, interpretative, and analytical skills and ability to make sense and draw meaningful insights from complex NHS datasets, you will have experience in writing complex SQL code, manipulation of large datasets using tools such as SSMS, and preferably have hands on experience with Microsoft Power BI and Power Query.

This role is to assist in the delivery of Business Intelligence (BI) for the ‘pathfinder programme’ of specialised services delegation from NHS England to SEL ICB. The role also inputs to the overall strategic delivery of the service and is part of a South London BI and Finance virtual team as well as the overall SEL Analytics team. The post-holder will report to the Associate Director of Financial Analytics.
As an expert in the information management field, the post holder will develop SEL’s approach to BI for specialised services, providing information and analytical support for colleagues across the ICB and South London. The post-holder will be required to work closely with the South London Office for Specialised Services (SLOSS), South West London ICB, South London providers and NHS England, providing the business intelligence needed to support initial contract negotiation and documentation, monthly contract monitoring and managing contract compliance. The nature of this programme requires the post holder to be comfortable working in an uncertain landscape, interrogating newly-available datasets and developing bespoke tools and reports.
The South East London Integrated Care System (ICS) brings together the health and care partners that serve our vibrant and highly diverse populations resident in the London boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark - our Places.
Our partnership brings together six local authorities, over 200 general practices (operating within 35 Primary Care Networks), Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital NHS FT, King’s College Hospital NHS FT, Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, South London and the Maudsley Mental Health FT and Oxleas FT. Importantly, the ICS seeks to be connected to the communities we serve (circa 1.92m residents) and work with the widest possible range of community, voluntary and third sector groups and organisations in each borough. The reach of our NHS provider portfolios extends beyond the borders of the ICS, across London, the south of England and nationally for some services.
The South East London ICB is the NHS management unit of the ICS. It is accountable both to NHS England and to the South East London Integrated Care Partnership (ICP).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Validate and monitor the provision of specialised datasets by NHS England and SEL providers, including confirming accuracy, completeness, timeliness and availability. Work with NHS England and other South London colleagues to resolve any issues that are identified.
- Assist with integrating new specialised datasets into the ICB’s existing reporting environment.
- Provide expertise, modelling and benchmarking to enable ICB population spend and activity to be cut on the basis of geography, age and disease to support whole population place-based planning.
- Work on the creation of regular, robust and effective performance monitoring tools as part of multi-disciplinary teams delivering specialised services within South London, including: • Support Contract Management teams in negotiating and agreeing contracts with providers and NHS England for the provision of specialised services.
- Timely and validated specialised contract monitoring and performance information, in user-friendly format
- Monitoring of performance, the assessment and analysis of trends and issues, scenario planning and year end projections.
- Analytical support to the production of annual operating plans through the provision of specialised services analysis.
- Work closely with the Health Intelligence Managers and the Associate Director of Financial Analytics to assist with the integration of specialised services into Population Health Management and Health Inequalities focused reporting and analytical capability workstream.
- Support with analytics as part of a multi-disciplinary approach to planning, ICB programmes of transformation and ongoing support to enable the effective implementation of service changes, contract developments and annual Operating Plan and assurance process.
- Work with the Health intelligence managers to assist with SEL’s Business Intelligence Reporting development workstream, continuously reviewing and adapting the portfolio of automated and manual reports available to meet changing requirements and priorities.
- Create, maintain and update reports using Power BI and other platforms, and using SharePoint to store, organize, share, and access these Reports.
- Ensure that robust and effective activity related monitoring information is provided as required on a regular basis, including tailoring data and information reports to meet the needs of different stakeholders both internal and external.
- Represent SEL ICB in data modelling, analytical system development and other such collaboration projects developed jointly with SWL ICB, SLOSS, ISL and other key stakeholders in London and national programmes. Support data assurance, validation and systems harmonisation projects working with the ISL and NECS teams to achieve improvements in technical processes and a consistent and comprehensive London-wide approach to data assurance processes that meets SEL local requirements.
- Contribute to ‘lessons learned’ documentation outlining the approach taken in SWL and evaluation of its success, in order to feed back to NHS England and to assist other ICBs across England with planning for the delegation of specialised services from 24/25.
- Maintain and cascade up to date knowledge of current and complex reforming NHS financial flows and national tariff payments system guidance, Specialised Services Specifications & Identification Rules, NHS Data Dictionary and Data Models.
- Be a source of expertise and advice for Business Intelligence questions, in particular around specialised services information.
- Provide analytical support to enable a more holistic approach to be taken to the understanding of drivers related to the use of health care services and their performance.
- Develop intelligence about new products and services and national initiatives within NHS Informatics
- Contribute to options papers and briefings as required to inform strategic data and technology decisions
- Actively support own development and that of junior team members to enable: • Delivery of day-to-day activities and projects.
