About the role


Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Heavy Plant Mechanic/Fitter to join our Rail team maintaining a fleet of On-Track Machines in our Sussex based depot (Horsham).

Role Purpose:

  • Maintain and Repair On-Track Machines known as MPV’s (Multi-Purpose Vehicles’) and associated modules in-line with Vehicle Maintenance Instructions (VMI’s)

What you'll be doing


As a Heavy Plant Fitter you will:

  • Maintain MPV’s and Modules in accordance with the Network Rail issued Documentation;
  • Undertake the duties as directed by the Depot Supervisor;
  • Be proficient in and carry out the fault finding and subsequent repair of mechanical and/or electrical systems;
  • Be proficient in carrying out as required verbal and written reports on faults, repairs, maintenance;
  • As part of a team develop initiatives to improve the quality, productivity, reliability and availability of MPV’s and Modules;
  • Complete training and Professional Development as required;
  • Any other Duties as directed by your Line Management.

Who we're looking for


Personal Qualities and Experience:

  • Knowledge of and experience in a Mechanical/Engineering Industry (Specific training will be provided by our dedicated Competency Trainer/Assessors);
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work to Maintenance programme timescales/deadlines;
  • Must meet and maintain the appropriate medical standard for the position;
  • Knowledge of health & safety legislation/risk management/COSHH awareness;

Essential

  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent in an engineering discipline
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Flexibility towards rosters as this role involves Weekend & Night shifts

Desirables


  • PTS (Personal Track Safety)
  • Forklift (Counterbalance B1 & B3)
