Reporting directly to the CEO of Oyster Yachts, the Design Director is accountable for leading the Oyster Design Organisation. The Design Organisation consists of four pivotal functions of Oyster’s Design organisation areas, Production Programmes, New Product Development, Value Engineering and Design Revenue Stream. Respectively, these four areas maintain and improve the existing yacht range, develop new and innovative products, eliminate waste from all aspect of the business and bring value to Oyster customers by delivering an industry leading and competitive design offering.

The role forms part of the senior leadership team and will be an attendee and active participant at the Board. The role holder will be a thought partner to the Board, helping guide the business to increased revenue and margins through innovative solutions and application of design organisation and management best practice. They will ensure good resourcing strategies coupled to a laser focus on achieving Design Organisation revenue targets whilst delivering a world class design solution to the customer.

The role holder will lead the current Design Team which consists of circa 20 FTE, with contractor resource supplementing. The team are located over 3 sites, Southampton and Hythe in Hampshire and Wroxham in Norfolk.

The individual should posses extensive knowledge of yacht design preferable in luxury super yacht market, in depth understanding of value engineering in yacht design and manufacturing, strong capability with design packages including NX Siemens and a sound understanding of the requirements of a blue water cruising yacht.
