Job description

Do you love aircraft? Come and join us at Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) as an Integrated Logistics Support Manager.

Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) is a disciplined approach to managing Whole Life Costs that affect both the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and its suppliers. Its aim is to reduce Whole Life Costs by optimising the support system required for products, through influencing their design for supportability and determining the optimum support requirements. A product is defined as an equipment, service, system, or system of systems.

You will join one of the following -

The dedicated teams responsible for supporting the Royal Airforce’s Intelligence, Surveillance, Targeting, Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) Aircraft. Collaborating with industry partners and the Royal Air Force, you’ll contribute to the delivery of contracts that support the life cycle of aircraft, ensuring we deliver world class equipment for the Royal Air Force.

Or

The UK Military Flying Training System (UKMFTS) Delivery Team, delivering training for armed forces aircrew from initial training through to advanced flying training phases ahead of their arrival at their designated operational aircraft units. Here, you will manage the planning and delivery of technical support arrangements for the UKMFTS programme. This will require the further development of the support strategy from feasibility, through to the contracting and approvals process, to manufacture and implementation into service.

With a proactive and continuous improvement mind set, you will encourage a culture of imaginative thinking, learning from experience and challenging the status quo to continually drive for improved quality. You’ll be part of a diverse team that integrates new elements into the service delivery space, you will ensure everyone is collaboratively working, communicating, and delivering your plan of action, while bringing your stakeholders on the journey with you.

You will be based at RAF Waddington with an expectation to attend the office one to two days a week, eventually moving to a more regular basis. Some travel will be required in the UK and overseas depending on the role. Reasonable notice will be given, and travel and subsistence costs will be paid.

Please note that salary offers above the £39,500 - £42,500 range will only be made based on exceptional performance at interview.

About the role
In this role, your key responsibilities will include to:

  • Provide the Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) Elements, providing a risk assured supportability case and accountability for coordinating the inputs to the case,
  • Lead the ILS inputs into the programme support contract, communicating and collaborating with cross-function colleagues, Industry, and Customers, managing the current and future in-service availability, reliability, maintainability, and sustainability to meet training and/or operational service requirements.
  • Support the integration of new capabilities, developing associated ILS documentation using Industry standard ILS methodologies, and ensuring support arrangements are fit for purpose holding the supplier to account for their delivery.
  • Provide accurate support information and data insights to continually improve the availability and influencing effective post design activities for the platform or the maintenance solution.
  • Ensure support governance regimes are implemented as part of Through Life Support management for evaluating and implementing changes to the platform to its out of service date.
  • Define the supportability requirements for contract stipulations, for new design training services and changes to in-service support and service delivery of training services and equipment.
  • Manage equipment obsolescence, delivering and up-keeping of the Obsolescence Management Plan (OMP) and setting the conditions for minimising cost impacts through life.
  • Manage, coordinate, develop, implement, and optimise support solutions through the provision of relevant, timely and accurate support information, data, and analysis.
  • Co-ordinate the plan for training service and platform/equipment end-of-service life.
  • Manage the Technical Through Life Support Risks.

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Experience in delivering Through Life Support services/systems and knowledge in delivering Asset Management Systems.
  • Evidence of stakeholder management, internal and external at all levels.
  • Experience in delivering and managing an ILS programme/project(s) or major ILS milestone as part of customer service.
  • Proven record in evaluating support related reviews for improving support and resolving disputes.
  • Background in producing and scrutinising reports for complex issues and trends for communicating recommendations and alternative approaches.

In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competences and behaviours will be assessed at interview:
