Physical Education and Dance form an integral part of the curriculum across all key stages at Shoreham Academy. The faculty offers a wide range of courses including GCSE PE (AQA), A-Level PE (AQA), GCSE Dance (AQA), BTEC Sport L2, BTEC Sport L3, BTEC Sports Science L3, BTEC Public Services L3, a range of sports leadership qualifications and F.A Level 1 Football Coaching. We also run 2 high performance Sports Academies in the 6th Form (Soccer and Dance).
Physical Education at Shoreham Academy enjoys a high profile, with very good levels of participation by students. Extra-curricular PE and Dance clubs are well attended. We are part of the West Sussex South District Sports partnership. The partnership provides us with an extensive fixture schedule at district level. Many of our sports teams consistently win district competitions and reach the latter stages of County and National competitions. Our extra-curricular success is celebrated each year at our showcase event, the Shoreham Academy Sports Celebration Evening.
Sports facilities at Shoreham Academy are state of the art. The faculty boasts a 4th generation Astroturf pitch, 2 large multiuse games areas, 2 large field areas, a dance studio, a fitness suite, a 4-badminton court sports hall with a 400-seat spectator viewing area, a 3-badminton court sports hall, outdoor and indoor cricket nets.
Beyond the PE/Dance team, you will join a vibrant community and a community that places wellbeing and CPD at its heart for the staff. There will be opportunities to professionally progress, and this can be with the support of the CPD Team or via courses and opportunities led by United Learning. Also, there are many chances to get involved in activities supporting the wider community and activities that nurture and develop our curriculum focusing on Education with Character. About you:
The successful applicant will be an excellent and passionate teacher of PE. We are seeking someone who can lead by example and wants to make their mark on the development of whole school PE within Shoreham Academy. You will need to be able to work as a team member and support the Director of Sport, Head of PE, and Leader of Vocational Sport, but also show initiative and independence.
The successful applicant will have gained valuable and relevant experience from your current or previous posts and have a clear vision of what you want to achieve. You may already hold a post of responsibility or maybe you feel ready and equipped to meet this challenge after several years teaching.
