Job Description
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Reception Team within the Central Operating Department at Freeman Hospital.
The Operating department has 20 theatres covering a variety of surgical specialties. Successful applicants will work on the Reception desks where they will ensure that patients are sent for theatres, check patients in prior to surgery, answer phones, deal with visitors to the department and liaise with ward staff. The successful applicant will also support the Recovery team with admin jobs.

- To provide an effective and efficient theatre reception and administrative service within the terms and conditions of the NHS Guidelines, ensuring that a high quality of customer care is delivered.
- The post holder is a member of a team of HCA’s and trained nursing staff. They ensure that patients are sent for theatres, check patients in prior to surgery answer phones, deal with visitors to the department and liaise with ward staff.

- Trained in the use of eRecord to a high level / outpatient booking procedures.
- Trained to understand and adhere to the policies relating to the disclosure of information relating to inside/outside sources including police, HM Prison Service.
- Trained and understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality.
- Knowledge of matters arising from the data protection act 1998.
- Knowledge and understanding of other IT systems including Ambulance on line booking service.
- Previous practical experience in reception and customer care skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload effectively.
- Experience in working as part of a team. · Flexible approach to working.
- Improve own personal training and development skills.
- Attend any courses relevant to the post.
- The above is acquired via induction and on the job training over a minimum of 6 months.
Please note it is a requirement of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first month’s pay.
