BAE Systems Land UK are responsible for the design, manufacture and support of a wide range of munitions products. This requires us to model and simulate all stages of the product lifecycle from conception to disposal. We have identified an area of growth critical to the success of our newly awarded long term partnering agreement with the UK MoD. The area in question is in the field of modelling and simulating of energetic materials. This can range from aspects such as chemical ageing all the way through to ignition and growth mechanisms within the material.

What you’ll be doing:

• Engaging with other teams to observe physical firing trials of ammunition
• Data gathering and liaising with trials teams
• Taking trial data and interpret, using chemical modelling expertise, to replicate the results using software
• Working with design engineers and energetics teams to understand the interactions between different elements of the product
• Working with material scientists to understand the products on a material level
• Develop technical knowledge by engaging with key SMEs in related fields as part of a knowledge retention exercises

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

• Graduate, or on course for achieving a 2:1 BSc degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or another relevant subject
• High level of understanding of Microsoft Excel

Desirable:

• Masters in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
• Experience with coding, modelling and simulation techniques

The Chemical Engineer team:

You will be working as part of the Engineering Analysis Team, a group of SMEs in various specialisms, helping to develop capability in the area of Chemical Modelling. This is a burgeoning area within both the team and Land UK as a whole. You will be expected to help direct and grow the capability alongside senior team members whilst also engaging with other UK SMEs and delivering key technical programmes already agreed by our customer within the field.
