Operating within the Integrated Mission Solutions (IMS) Integrated Project Team (IPT) in the EW Line of Business, this role will predominantly operate within the IMS Academy team providing support to key programmes within the UK and internationally.
This is an exciting role, which will offer a broad range of opportunities to develop and grow in the Procurement profession. We are looking for a skilled and proactive person who can lead on lifecycle procurement activities within multiple Project teams.
The role will see the Sub-Contract Buyer source, and negotiate, with existing and new suppliers, for a range of products and services while working with a high level of independence.
This role can be based at either Leonardo’s Lincoln or Luton sites [with hybrid/ home working], but will require some presence at both locations on a semi regular basis.
Innovation, collaboration, risk and opportunity exploitation, cost reduction, quality and application of procurement lifecycle governance are all key parameters for this role.
- Draft and prepare routine quotations, purchase orders, other standard agreements and internal approvals in line with standard formats.
- Drive and lead the generation and review of appropriate contracts, specifications, and Statement of Work.
- Work with stakeholders in order to understand Internal Customer demand.
- Leads, evaluates and negotiates the Request for Quotation (RFQ) process.
- Develop and implement robust supply chain relationships to support the business goals.
- Be responsible for the success or failure of the suppliers performance.
- Develop and monitor cost / lead-time reduction targets, by demonstrating value for money.
- Capture engineering requirements and communicate to the supply base.
- Analyse, process, confirm and communicate requirements to the supplier.
- Negotiate dead-lines/quantities/service provision and prices with suppliers.
- Measure and analyse supplier performance in coordination with the functional requirements and if their targets are not being achieved, set up internal and external action plans in close cooperation with the stakeholders.
- Ensure that the appropriate commercial protections are in place such as; effective Partnering Agreements, Supply Agreements, Software Licence Agreements, Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA’s) / Technical Assistance Agreements (TAA’s) / Export Licences etc.
- Create and maintain robust Procurement Plans and executable strategies in line with Life Cycle Management (LCM) principles
- Management of Compliance and Governance restrictions for all procured items and services
You really must have:

- Familiar with the contents of suppliers’ contracts.
- An understanding of legal aspects and an ability to negotiate bespoke terms and conditions [with guidance].
- Ability to balance priorities and manage time effectively.
- Good interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively at all levels internally and externally.
- Background and experience of procuring both products and services is preferred
- Experience of SAP and PO administration/ management
- Good IT skills including MS Office
- Experience of managing of the supply base and supply chain
- Good communication skills – written, oral and presentations.
It would be nice if you had:
- Civil / Defence / Aerospace experience would be beneficial
- An awareness of different Export Controls associated with contracting within the Defence/Aerospace industry.
- Ability to engage and build relationships with cross-functional/cross site teams.
- Good negotiation and influencing skills.
- Qualified to degree level or equivalent (or studying towards or achievement of MCIPS).
- A good understanding of the Commercial and Legal Aspects associated with contracting within the Defence/Aerospace industry or a similar market sector.
