FULL TIME - £25 - £28 PER HOUR
Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Billings and Benefits Officer to join our team at the Essex Council Office. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Council Tax and Housing Benefits services for the Council. The role requires an individual who is highly organised, detail-oriented, and has a strong understanding of the Council Tax and Housing Benefits systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage Council Tax and Housing Benefits services for the Council
- Process Council Tax and Housing Benefit claims and determine eligibility
- Ensure that Council Tax and Housing Benefit records are accurate and up-to-date
- Provide advice and support to customers on Council Tax and Housing Benefits matters
- Manage the recovery of Council Tax and Housing Benefit overpayments
- Liaise with other departments, external agencies, and customers to resolve issues
- Maintain accurate records and produce reports on Council Tax and Housing Benefit activity
- Keep up to date with changes to legislation and guidance relating to Council Tax and Housing Benefits
Requirements:
- Proven experience in a similar role, preferably within a local authority
- Excellent knowledge of Council Tax and Housing Benefit legislation and guidance
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Council Tax and Housing Benefit systems
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A relevant qualification in Council Tax or Housing Benefits would be advantageous
