Job Description


The Bid Manager works on major bids using their experience and expertise to guide and support business leaders, technical teams, bid teams and capture managers to effectively deliver winning bids. The Bid Manager has a target win rate of 50%, working selectively from the qualified pipeline on those opportunities that will make the greatest difference to NSR and EBITA growth.

The Bid Manager is responsible for leading bid teams in the creation bid win strategy, driving that strategy throughout all stages of the bid from facilitation of kick off, delivery method creation, commercial challenge, through the bid submission to interview / presentation preparation and debrief. The Bid Manager provides consistency throughout all stages and is responsible for sharing lessons learnt and enabling continuous improvement in our bidding efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with CAM teams to gather client and scope intelligence and gain an understanding of positioning activities to date.
  • Manages a holistic approach to bidding, starting with the creation of a win strategy, through bid execution to debrief.
  • Manages the delivery of the bid in conjunction with the capture manager and support services.
  • Works with the capture manager to identify all technical, work winning, visual communications and marketing resources and skills required to ensure they are available when needed.
  • Ensures the effective use of the work winning process and tools, for all bids.
  • Engages early with marketing teams on thought leadership, marketing and PR campaigns to position AECOM with the client key decision makers for the opportunity.
  • Coaches and trains bid teams in the creation of win strategies, writing and pricing bids.
  • Manages legal and bid governance tasks.
  • Provides effective facilitation of quality and commercial kick-off sessions, delivery method workshop, answer plan sessions, commercial challenge team and quality reviews and debrief sessions.
  • Manages the quality element of the bid, giving a clear brief of the task ahead to the writers and contributors.
  • Manages the commercial element of the bid facilitating relevant workshops, including bid budget.
  • Fully understands and communicates the project/framework scope and all bid document content to the bid team.

Communicating effectively: Be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Support and lead bid development workshops for the creation of capture plans, win themes and answer planning.

Leading and managing others: As a minimum, the bid manager will be the ‘hub’ that links all the moving parts of a bid, managing and motivating the bid team to achieve milestones within the bid programme. Maintain confident control of all bid content and be prepared to challenge and manage the team positively. Promote a culture of sharing knowledge, insights and learning.

Desired qualifications and attributes:

  • Degree in a relevant discipline.
  • APMP Foundation level.
  • 3+ years demonstrable bid management experience (preferably in a similar environment)
  • Understanding the bidding process and have effective bid management and writing skills.
  • Excellent communicator.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Thrives in a busy environment.
  • Ability to prioritise workload.
  • Ability to motivate a team (previous line management experience desirable).
